Off-Site Educational Programs
Bring The Trolley Museum To Your Classroom!
The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is excited to announce the return of off-site, traveling educational opportunities! Programming is currently being offered for students in Preschool and grades K - 5. Students will have the chance to participate in engaging hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities and interact with historical artifacts while learning about the Trolley Era. All programs align with Pennsylvania Core Standards. These programs are great for schools, libraries, summer camps, and other youth organizations. Best of all, no bus required!
Program Length
One program is approximately 40 - 45 minutes.
Please share any time restrictions when booking an off-site educational program. Accommodations can be made to shorten any program.
Class Size
These programs accommodate a single classroom, or up to a maximum of 40 students.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your program, please contact the Educator by calling 724-228-9256 ext. 6011 or email education@patrolley.org as soon as possible. If a cancellation is made with less than two week's notice, payment is nonrefundable.
The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum reserves the right to cancel any program due to a weather emergency or closure. In the event that this occurs, a full refund will be issued.
Availability
Off-site programs are available Mondays through Fridays April 1st - November 30th. Dates and times are available on a first come, first serve basis. When requesting a program, please provide a preferred date and a backup date.
There may be times of the year when traveling programs are not available.
Cost
- $100 per 45-minute program
Payment in full is due in order to confirm a traveling education program. Without payment, the program will not be considered confirmed. If a program is not confirmed two weeks prior, it will be considered cancelled.
Please note that a mileage fee may apply for locations 20+ miles away from the museum.

What is a trolley, and what does it do? Learn all about trolleys and the people who ride, repair, and operate them. Listen to a story about trolleys, then make a trolley-themed craft!
Note: We ask that you please provide your own scissors, glue sticks, and crayons.

Combine history, art, and science in this very colorful adventure! Explore the artwork and history of the many different custom paint jobs featured on Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania trolleys, including the psychedelic “Mod Desire” and the Pittsburgh favorite “Terrible Trolley,” then design your very own streetcar and use shrink art to shrink it down to pocket size to take home!
