DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum for a weekend of vintage technology! \nThis event highlights the technology of the Trolley Era (particularly centered on communications) and is included with general admission.  Explore antique radios\, typewriters\, printing presses\, victrolas\, phonographs\, and more! We’re a museum within a museum this weekend – come meet the exhibitors and see the passion they have for their hobbies! \nAlong with the event\, visitors can also explore our interactive exhibits in our Welcome & Education Center\, take a trolley for a ride on our 4-mile round-trip line\, and discover our historic streetcar collection.  Our regular admission rates are $20 for adults\, $19 for seniors\, and $15 for children 3-18. Children under 3 are free. \nConfirmed exhibitors and things to do:\n\nLocal amateur radio clubs will be setting up a special event station (W3T) and inviting visitors to explore the historic (and modern!) world of ham radio. Test out your Morse code skills on a practice key!\nYou’ve heard of a printing press – now’s your chance to test one out! Wayne and Nancy Young from the print shop in Portersville will be sharing and demonstrating their printing press. Representatives from the Old Economy Village print shop will be joining\, as well!\nTypewriter enthusiasts are invited to display their machines and to set up machines the public can use! We’ll have many machines to test out as part of the event from the collection of David Cannon. The museum will happily host buy/sell/trade tables as well. Type a letter to send in the mail and test out the different fonts and feelings of these classic machines\nWJPA’s G-Whiz George will showcase his 1950s phonographs\, with some of the RCA models manufactured just next door to the museum!\nThe DeBence Museum will host a table featuring vintage music technology from our collection. These fascinating pieces showcase the evolution of music history and how advancements in sound and recording helped shape broader societal changes\, including the rise of computerization. Best of all\, our exhibits are hands-on! Visitors will be invited to listen\, interact\, and become part of the music-making experience.\nViewpoint Production Services will share a collection of antique broadcasting equipment. Could you make it as a 1970s news videographer with all that heavy equipment?\nThe Bloop Museum (recently opened in Penn Hills) will share some of their exciting collection including retro game consoles and video storage/playback formats (Saturday only)\nThe Pittsburgh Antique Radio Society will display a variety of antique radios\nJay Graham will have vintage Apple II equipment from the 1970s and 1980s. Visitors are welcome to interact with the display hands-on to try their luck at classic Apple II games using period-correct joysticks\, compose a document using a vintage word processor\, or write and run a program in AppleSoft BASIC.\nExplore a display of cameras through the ages\nView the artistry that went into 1800s and early 1900s clocks and pocket watches\nSee a WWII-era Jeep with a back seat command set radio and historical displays from Don Grimm\nRetro fun: learn how to create a cassette mix tape on a boom box and explore the world of early 2000s digital photography\nGaming: Play an 8-bit game emulator to see how video games have evolved over the last 40+ years\n\nExhibitor Invite:\nDo you collect vintage technology? DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join us for Sensory Friendly Hours at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum! \nExplore the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in a sensory modified setting with quieter streetcars\, lowered exhibit sounds\, and soft lighting. Advanced registration is not required for this event. Tickets will be available at our regular admission prices. \n\nAdults $20\nSeniors (ages 62+) $19\nChildren (ages 3-18) $15\nToddler (ages 2 and under) Free\nMembers: Free\n\nAvailable Resources\nIn addition\, silicone bracelets will be made available in both adult and child sizes to assist with non-verbal communication\, particularly for individuals who have autism\, sensory processing difficulties\, or anxiety. The wristbands are designed to provide a visual indicator of comfort levels and engagement preferences. \n\nRed bracelets indicate that the wearer may be feeling overwhelmed or anxious and does not wish to engage in any conversation. They may wish to explore the museum at their own pace.\nYellow bracelets indicate that the wearer may feel uncertain about interactions. They may prefer limited engagement while navigating the museum at their own pace.\nGreen bracelets indicate that the wearer is comfortable and open to interaction with others.\n\nFurthermore\, guests will have access to complimentary Sensory Bags. These bags\, which may be requested at the front desk located in the museum store\, include noise-canceling headphones\, sunglasses\, fidget toys\, sensory items\, and a sensory guide. A valid photo ID will be required for the loan\, which will be held by the museum until the sensory bag is returned. \n \nWith the help of the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards\, PTM is pleased to provide Sensory Guides that can be used to help offer insight to guests on the sensory stimulation of different parts of the museum. These include touch\, taste\, sound\, sight\, and smell. This guide is available online. SUMMARY:Remake Learning Days: STEAM Explorers (Homeschool STEAM Day)
DESCRIPTION:Dive into all five areas of STEAM with interactive activities\, demos\, and experiments at stations spread throughout the whole museum! This family-friendly event is designed to engage homeschool students from PreK – 12th grade in all five areas of STEAM: Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art\, and Math.  \nInteractive\, hands-on STEAM stations will be set up all around the museum and will include the following activities: \n\nInvestigate the technology of the trolley era by exploring real trolley and streetcar parts and equipment. Compare what makes trolleys operate to how cars\, buses\, and other transit vehicles work today. In addition\, make sure to take a ride on a fully restored antique streetcar!\nDiscover how electricity works\, then investigate how trolleys and streetcars use electricity in order to run. Additionally\, get a chance to construct working circuits of your very own. \nFor a creative challenge\, can you build the tallest Trolley Observation Tower possible without causing the tower to collapse? Explore the principles of engineering and dive into the Engineer Design Process as you keep trying to build even taller and better than before.  \nWhat will transportation look like in the future? Dream up plans for how we’ll be getting around in one hundred years\, then design your own LEGO® streetcars and trolleys of the future. \nExplore the colorful artwork and history of the many different custom paint jobs featured on local trolleys (like the psychedelic “Mod Desire” and the Pittsburgh fan favorite\, “The Terrible Trolley\,”)\, then design your very own streetcar and shrink it down to pocket size to take home using Shrinky Dink science!\nExamine the amazing power of the Sun! Discover how we use solar energy to power our trolleys\, then make your very-own ultraviolet-detective bracelet out of special UV-reactive beads to take home.\nTo wrap up your day\, complete a streetcar-themed Scavenger Hunt in the Trolley Display Building. \n\nEnjoy this event with your general admission – no extra cost or advanced tickets required. Practice communicating with semaphore flags\, Morse Code\, ASL\, rail hand signals\, and more! \nScouts are responsible for the following pre-requisites: 7. Scouts must create at least a 1-mile trail for a patrol or troop to follow that includes at least six different trail signs and markers. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join us for Sensory Friendly Hours at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum! \nExplore the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in a sensory modified setting with quieter streetcars\, lowered exhibit sounds\, and soft lighting. Advanced registration is not required for this event. Tickets will be available at our regular admission prices. \n\nAdults $20\nSeniors (ages 62+) $19\nChildren (ages 3-18) $15\nToddler (ages 2 and under) Free\nMembers: Free\n\nAvailable Resources\nIn addition\, silicone bracelets will be made available in both adult and child sizes to assist with non-verbal communication\, particularly for individuals who have autism\, sensory processing difficulties\, or anxiety. The wristbands are designed to provide a visual indicator of comfort levels and engagement preferences. \n\nRed bracelets indicate that the wearer may be feeling overwhelmed or anxious and does not wish to engage in any conversation. They may wish to explore the museum at their own pace.\nYellow bracelets indicate that the wearer may feel uncertain about interactions. They may prefer limited engagement while navigating the museum at their own pace.\nGreen bracelets indicate that the wearer is comfortable and open to interaction with others.\n\nFurthermore\, guests will have access to complimentary Sensory Bags. These bags\, which may be requested at the front desk located in the museum store\, include noise-canceling headphones\, sunglasses\, fidget toys\, sensory items\, and a sensory guide. A valid photo ID will be required for the loan\, which will be held by the museum until the sensory bag is returned. \n \nWith the help of the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards\, PTM is pleased to provide Sensory Guides that can be used to help offer insight to guests on the sensory stimulation of different parts of the museum. These include touch\, taste\, sound\, sight\, and smell. This guide is available online. DESCRIPTION:Join us the third Thursday of each month for Trolley Tots! Trolley Tots is designed for early learners (children ages 2-5) and one accompanying adult to discover different types of transportation through sensory play\, stories\, crafts\, music\, and getting up-close with the vehicle of the month! Space is limited\, so advance purchase is recommended! Children must be accompanied by an adult – for field trip programs for preschool classes and other ages\, click here! \nTickets\nTickets include access to the Trolley Tots program and same-day admission to the museum. \n\n$25 for one child + one adult helper for non-members\n$5 for one child + one adult helper for members \n$10 for additional children in the same family group\n$10 for additional adults in the same family group\n\nBook online now! \nMembers must purchase tickets through their Neon One membership portal to receive the discount. Log in here and select “Member Discount Tickets” from the menu. \n2026 Schedule\nPrograms begin promptly at 10:30 am and wrap up around 11:30 am.
