Trolley Street Takes Shape

September 2, 2021 By Events and Programs Assistant

Beginning in mid-August, track construction on Trolley Street has really begun to take shape!

First, some drone photos from Beau Miller on August 30:

Some photos from Bruce Wells on August 31, taken at ground level:

As volunteer Bob Jordan mentions, “For the first time in about 88 years, Wexford Station will have trolley service.”

This Sept. 2 photo from Larry Lovejoy shows the work on the “skeleton track” about 85% complete.

Throughout September, work on the tracks and overhead line work progressed, with Trolley Street seeing its first rail vehicles travel over the tracks!

Work on the overhead began with hanging span wire followed by the overhead trolley wire.

Ballasting happened in early October.

On October 9, 2021, Trolley Street saw its first (test) passenger car, West Penn #832.

For the first time in nearly 90 years, a trolley passes in front of Wexford Station!

Tamping began the week of October 11. Above, Katie Imler and Larry Lovejoy spread ballast while Dan Bower runs the tamper.

In November, work continued on other areas along Trolley Street, including Falconi Plaza and Barry Stout Park.

By the end of 2021, capstones were installed at Falconi Plaza and Barry Stout Park.

Work continued on some warmer days in early 2022 with pouring of foundations.

A crew from Kishmo, Inc. poured Welcome and Education Center foundations in early February.
