Operator Training
Become a volunteer operator at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum!
You'll have the opportunity to take visitors on exciting trips back in time to the Trolley Era. You'll also have the chance to connect with our community of volunteers who share a passion for trolleys, history, and education.
Our training process involves virtual learning modules and in-person training sessions, scheduled at your own convenience.
Operators, once trained, can sign up for shifts throughout the week during the morning, afternoon, and evening. You can volunteer no matter what your schedule looks like!
The minimum age for operators is 14 years old. Volunteers ages 14-17 may not operate for paying visitors, but can operate for maintenance purposes and for volunteer-only events. Teen operators are still encouraged to participate- we have many on our team and they have a great time!

Operators ages 18+ must have a valid Drivers License. All operators and volunteers must complete clearances as required by Pennsylvania.
Operators must be able to go up and down steep stairs, easily transition from sitting to standing and vice versa, walk on uneven surfaces, raise and pull ropes attached to heavy trolley poles, and stand for long periods of time.
