SUMMARY:Remake Learning Days: STEAM Explorers (Homeschool STEAM Day)
DESCRIPTION:Dive into all five areas of STEAM with interactive activities\, demos\, and experiments at stations spread throughout the whole museum! This family-friendly event is designed to engage homeschool students from PreK – 12th grade in all five areas of STEAM: Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art\, and Math.  \nInteractive\, hands-on STEAM stations will be set up all around the museum and will include the following activities: \n\nInvestigate the technology of the trolley era by exploring real trolley and streetcar parts and equipment. Compare what makes trolleys operate to how cars\, buses\, and other transit vehicles work today. In addition\, make sure to take a ride on a fully restored antique streetcar!\nDiscover how electricity works\, then investigate how trolleys and streetcars use electricity in order to run. Additionally\, get a chance to construct working circuits of your very own. \nFor a creative challenge\, can you build the tallest Trolley Observation Tower possible without causing the tower to collapse? Explore the principles of engineering and dive into the Engineer Design Process as you keep trying to build even taller and better than before.  \nWhat will transportation look like in the future? Dream up plans for how we’ll be getting around in one hundred years\, then design your own LEGO® streetcars and trolleys of the future. \nExplore the colorful artwork and history of the many different custom paint jobs featured on local trolleys (like the psychedelic “Mod Desire” and the Pittsburgh fan favorite\, “The Terrible Trolley\,”)\, then design your very own streetcar and shrink it down to pocket size to take home using Shrinky Dink science!\nExamine the amazing power of the Sun! Discover how we use solar energy to power our trolleys\, then make your very-own ultraviolet-detective bracelet out of special UV-reactive beads to take home.\nTo wrap up your day\, complete a streetcar-themed Scavenger Hunt in the Trolley Display Building. \n\nEnjoy this event with your general admission – no extra cost or advanced tickets required. This event is a part of Remake Learning Days. Guests can purchase tickets at the museum on the day of the event. Members receive free admission! \nKids receive FREE ADMISSION as part of Free Kid May!
