SUMMARY:Trolleyology: West Penn Railways
DESCRIPTION:Join PTM staff\, volunteers\, and members for our Zoom series\, Trolleyology! These programs feature Pennsylvania transit history topics and tales of our collection that you can experience from home. Registration is required but free of charge. Donations are welcome and encouraged. \n  \nWest Penn Railways\nOctober 29\, 2024 – 7 PM ET – Presented by Harvey Laner \n\nREGISTER HERE \n  \nRUNTIME: 105 Minutes. \nAt its peak\, West Penn Railways had 237 miles of electric railway trackage. It operated in the well populated coal mining and coking region of rugged\, mountainous western Pennsylvania. West Penn Railways was a vibrant transportation system playing a key role in the pre automobile\, unpaved\, poor road era\, and was an important factor in the Coking region’s economy. \nThis program combines Harvey Laner’s West Penn Railways video files of railfans Ed Miller and Gene Schmidt’s movies with Harvey’s conversational narration with West Penn Railways historian Ed Lybarger. Ed meticulously describes the route as Ed Millers’ movies take us from Uniontown to Greensburg. Ed Lybarger details West Penn’s LCL freight service\, an in-depth description of the Company’s passenger and work car equipment\, a whimsical look at West Penn’s creative advertising program and an overview of the management people that guided the Company through the good and the difficult years. \nThis complete story of West Penn Railways includes a look at the web of public utilities that connect it to West Virginia’s Monongahela & West Penn and Wheeling Traction Company properties as well as the Hagerstown & Frederick Railway in Maryland. Historic movie scenes of those traction properties are also included in this far reaching\, comprehensive program. \n  \nNOTE: This program will NOT be recorded and will NOT available at a later date on the PTM YouTube channel. \n  \nTrolleyology presentations will continue on a regular or semi-regular basis. Interested in presenting? Email Kristen at kfred@patrolley.org! We’re specifically looking for programs related to the Trolley Era in general\, Pennsylvania transit history\, or stories about our collection. Please join our e-mail list to stay up-to-date with program announcements and other PTM news! \n*For the best experience\, we recommend downloading Zoom in advance. \nNOTE: This is a virtual event

SUMMARY:Full Day Photo Shoot
DESCRIPTION:The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum will host a full day photo event on Monday\, October 14 from 9:00 AM to approximately 9:30 PM. \nThis unique opportunity offers photographers the chance to capture images of antique streetcars at various areas around the museum. Scenes include a brick-paved street with safety island\, an early 1900s trolley station\, rustic woodlands\, and more. The day will be broken into three sessions (morning\, afternoon\, sunset/evening) with ample time for lunch and dinner between sessions (off-site\, not included). Mobility note: this photo excursion involves getting on an off the streetcar and walking on uneven terrain. \nThe resulting images will evoke nostalgia and a fondness for days gone by. Photographers will have the opportunity to shoot up to 10 streetcars individually and as part of a scene\, with motormen in period-appropriate clothing. Streetcars will be lit after dark with continuous-source LED lights providing time for attendees to photograph each scene from multiple angles. \nPhotographer Tom Pawlesh will coordinate and light the photo shoot. Tom is a retired airline pilot and widely published wildlife & nature and aviation photographer. Tom volunteers as a vintage streetcar operator and instructor at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum and provides many of the museum’s marketing photos. \nThe price per attendee is $125. \n  \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n A view of PA Trolley Museum Volunteer Blvd.

SUMMARY:Dog Days of Summer
DESCRIPTION:Say goodbye to the dog days of summer by bringing your pooch to the Museum for National Dog Day!\nNote: We’re celebrating TUESDAY\, August 27 since we’re closed on National Dog Day’s actual date\, August 26.\n\nWe ask that all dogs remain on a leash and are well behaved. You must also clean up after them while on Museum property.\n\n\nThe Chartiers-Houston Community Library will be hosting doggie story time at 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM!\n  \nThe last trolley leaves at 3 PM. Regular admission prices for humans\, but the pups are free (as long as we can spoil them with pets)!\n\n  \nWashington Area Humane Society will be on site from 10 AM to 2 PM with drink stations and dog treat goodie bags! Stop by their outreach table to chat about adoptions\, volunteering\, and fostering. Plus — sign up to win the pet raffle basket!\n\n  \nDogs must pose no health risk to humans and have all appropriate licenses and immunizations. Please be sensitive to other visitors who may be uncomfortable around dogs.
