By travelling outside its walls! Transit museums are often in a unique position to host excursions on their vintage fleets and lead tours in the systems of their home cities. The New York Transit Museum and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum are no exception. SUMMARY:New Operator Training
DESCRIPTION:The registration for this event has now closed. Please email volunteer@patrolley.org to learn about future volunteer opportunities and classes. \nThis September\, you’re invited to participate in the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum’s New Operator Training class.  This hands-on course will teach you how to operate our trolleys and start your process to qualify as a volunteer museum operator. \nAs a PTM operator\, you’ll have the opportunity to make sure each visitor has an exciting journey back in time to the Trolley Era.  Treat them to rides along our two-mile track on some of the many restored trolleys in our collection. \nYou’ll also have the chance to connect with our community of volunteers who share a passion for trolleys\, history\, and education.  Scheduling for our operators is also completely flexible.  Volunteer once a week\, once a month\, or a couple times a year!  No matter what- we’ll be glad to have your help. \nTraining Info\nClass Dates: \n\nSaturday\, September 21\nSunday\, September 22\nAn additional training day to be scheduled with our instructors at your convenience\n\nAttendance is required on both dates.  Class will be held from 9:00 am to approximately 4:00 pm at our West Campus location at 1 Museum Road.  Please bring a copy of your driver’s license and lunch for both days.  \nInstruction materials will be provided\, including a binder with an Operations Manual.  If you’d like to get a head start\, please reach out\, and we’ll send you the information! Interested operators should also please consider signing up for Museum Guide Training (offered next on September 28 or September 29). This helps us ensure a great experience for all of our visitors. \nTo participate in training\, you must be 14 years of age and a current member of the museum.  (Operators must select “Regular Membership” or any tier above\, except for those currently in school\, who may apply for “Student Membership.”)  New operators must also complete their clearances (instructions here) before training. \n In order to complete training and become an official operator\, students must do the following: attend both days of group operator training\, complete 1 day of individual training and 15 days of student operation (scheduled at your convenience)\, and pass a proficiency test. \nSpace is limited so RSVP today! \n**Please be advised that all volunteers are required to have up-to-date PA State Clearances. SUMMARY:Last Fridays at the Museum- September
DESCRIPTION:Take a ride on a trolley\, grab a bite to eat from a food truck\, and bring your lawn chair so you can kick back and listen to some live music along our beautiful Volunteer Boulevard. This will be a concert series that will continue throughout the summer with a different band or performer each month. Performance begins at 6 PM and wraps up at 8 PM. \nSeptember’s Performance\nThe Gillie Brothers Band \nRefreshments\nThis month\, we’ll be hosting the Notorious B.L.T. food truck! You’re also welcome to bring your own food and beverages. \nTickets\n$10 per person – purchase tickets at the Museum day of the event. Come out and enjoy the music on our picturesque street. \n

DESCRIPTION:Make the Trolley Era come alive!\nDuring their visits to the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum\, guests have the chance to travel back in time to the wonders of the Trolley Era- when the bright lights and clanging bells of the trolleys filled the streets of America.  \nThis experience would not be possible without our Museum Guides\, who lead visitors on this journey through the decades.  Join our team this Fall and help us bring the excitement of the past to life for our community.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys history\, transportation\, technology\, education\, or just having a fun time! \n*Click here to register* \n  \nTraining Info\nSession Dates (Pick One): \n\nSaturday\, September 28\, 10:00am to 1:00pm\nSunday\, September 29\, 1:00pm to 4:00pm\n\nEach day as PTM guide looks a little bit different.  Guides give tours of our historic Wexford Station and our trolley collection that’s 50+ cars and growing.  They greet guests and answer questions about trolley history and daily happenings at the museum.  They also might assist with educational programs as well as festivities at special events.  \nDuring Museum Guide Training\, you’ll learn from our volunteers how to make each visitor’s museum experience the best one possible.  The class will highlight important aspects of customer service and how to give a successful tour.  Content-related materials will be provided along with other resources- there is no background knowledge necessary! \nAt the end of your session\, you’ll be on your way to becoming an official Museum Guide.  You’ll have the opportunity to shadow our experienced volunteers and practice until you’re ready to go.  There’s no required time commitment for either your time in training or as an official guide- everything is at your own pace.  Whether you volunteer once a week\, or a couple times a year\, we’ll be glad to have your help.  \nMuseum volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to volunteer without a guardian present.  To learn more about our family volunteer opportunities\, please email mmeer@patrolley.org. \n**Please be advised that all volunteers are required to have up-to-date PA State Clearances.  Click here to view clearance instructions.**

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join us for Sensory Friendly Hours at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum! \nExplore the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in a sensory modified setting with quieter streetcars\, lowered exhibit sounds\, and soft lighting. Advanced registration is not required for this event. Tickets will be available at our regular admission prices. \n\nAdults $20\nSeniors (ages 62+) $19\nChildren (ages 3-18) $15\nToddler (ages 2 and under) Free\nMembers: Free\n\nAvailable Resources\nIn addition\, silicone bracelets will be made available in both adult and child sizes to assist with non-verbal communication\, particularly for individuals who have autism\, sensory processing difficulties\, or anxiety. The wristbands are designed to provide a visual indicator of comfort levels and engagement preferences. \n\nRed bracelets indicate that the wearer may be feeling overwhelmed or anxious and does not wish to engage in any conversation. They may wish to explore the museum at their own pace.\nYellow bracelets indicate that the wearer may feel uncertain about interactions. They may prefer limited engagement while navigating the museum at their own pace.\nGreen bracelets indicate that the wearer is comfortable and open to interaction with others.\n\nFurthermore\, guests will have access to complimentary Sensory Bags. These bags\, which may be requested at the front desk located in the museum store\, include noise-canceling headphones\, sunglasses\, fidget toys\, sensory items\, and a sensory guide. A valid photo ID will be required for the loan\, which will be held by the museum until the sensory bag is returned. \n \nWith the help of the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards\, PTM is pleased to provide Sensory Guides that can be used to help offer insight to guests on the sensory stimulation of different parts of the museum. These include touch\, taste\, sound\, sight\, and smell. This guide is available online.
